SAMMY GETS A FILLING
My name is Sammy. I went to the dentist today to get my tooth fixed.
I was eating my cereal and my tooth started to hurt.
Mommy looked in my mouth and said “ I think we need to go to the dentist “. I’ve never been to the dentist , but my big sister Mady has. I’m not scared cause I think I’m braver than Mady . (That’s a secret )
When we got to the dentist. I played with some toys and then a nice lady came out and told mommy and me the dentist was ready to see me . I was happy mommy was going to stay with me.
Mady was right, the chair is really big. The dentist came in and said “hi Sammy , your mommy said your tooth hurts , let’s take a look” . I opened my mouth and the dentist looked in my mouth with a little mirror.
Then he put sticky stuff on my tooth . It made my mouth feel funny . I got to wear really cool glasses. The dentist told me he is cleaning my tooth out so it won’t hurt anymore . The dentists helper sprayed water into my mouth at the same time . It tickled. I heard funny noises. I wasn’t scared because I was busy thinking of what I would pick from the toy box .
Before , I knew it my tooth was fixed.
Everyone said they were so proud of me for being so brave !!
My favourite part was picking out my new stickers .
TIPS FOR PARENTS
- be calm
- praise your child after dental visit
- show confidence in the dentist
- Don’t blame yourself -children get cavities
- NEVER BLAME YOUR CHILD —“you don’t brush right” etc..
- This can create a fear in your child . It can make your child look at the dentist as a punishment .
