Mom's Oral Health & Unborn Baby

It is important during pregnancy. that you have good oral health!

• Pregnancy hormones can affect mom's oral health. Pregnancy gingivitis
• Periodontitis has also been associated with poor pregnancy outcomes, including preterm birth and low birth weight.
These babies are at greater risk of having developmental problems, asthma, ear infections, and may have a higher risk of infant death.
• Morning sickness can cause acid that can weaken tooth enamel. Leaving mom prone to tooth decay
• Tiredness may lead to not maintaining proper oral care routines
• Eating and snacking more may be exposing your teeth to constant sugar and acids
• When taking supplements avoid gummy or chewy options as these contain sugar

It is very important as an expectant mom that you take care of your oral health. An unhealthy mouth contains bacteria that can be passed on to baby.  A healthy mouth free of bacteria should be included in your prenatal plan!

Brush twice a day
Floss at least once per day
Maintain a healthy diet
Drink plenty of water

See your dentist and hygienist regularity. Your dental professional will set a treatment plan for you during your pregnancy.
