Children's Packed Lunch
Don't know what to pack for your child's lunch?Here are some suggestions that will help your child maintain a healthy smile! *VEGETABLES- carrots, celery, mixed vegetables, salads are a great too. TIP: a small container of a healthy dip will encourage your child to eat all their vegetables*FRUITS -Apples, strawberries. Bananas (great with a healthy fruit dip)TIP: Avoid citrus fruits. These contain acids that can make teeth vulnerable to decay.Fibrous fruits and vegetables help keep your child's teeth healthy as they are natural teeth cleaners.*DAIRY -yogurt, cheese -dairy products contain calcium and other important vitamins for child's oral health *NUTS-almonds, pistachios, cashews and walnuts.Nuts are a great source of protein, healthy fats, fibre and Vitamin D TIP: look for nuts that come as slivers, much easier for children to eat and easier on their teeth)*WHOLE GRAIN BREAD - much healthier for your child. You can also pack healthy pita bread or wraps or crackers.TIP- try sugar-free or all-natural spreads such as peanut butter and jam, mayonnaise ). Choose natural meat slices(less processed and healthier)*WATER- helps to keep saliva flowing. This helps wash away food debris and acids and helps to keep teeth clean. TIP: Avoid coloured, citrus flavour waters and sports waters as these contain lots of sugar, thus defeating the purpose of water.Reminder: Book your child's dental check-up and cleaning.
