Implant-supported Dentures Oshawa
What are Implant-supported dentures?
Simply put implant-supported dentures are dentures combined with dental implants. Implant-supported dentures are used when the patient still has enough bone to support implants.
Implant-supported dentures can also be quite beneficial if you have a full set of dentures. Implant-supported dentures can halt bone loss by stimulating and regenerating the bone and soft tissues.
There are two types of implant-supported dentures:
Single unit retained: Each implant placed in the jawbone has a small metal attachment that fits inside the denture. In most cases, an upper denture will need a minimum of 4 implants and a lower denture will need a minimum of 2 implants.
Bar retained denture: Between
2.-6 implants are placed into the jawbone and a thin metal bar will be placed. This metal bar follows the curve of the jaw and is attached to the implants. The denture then fits over the bar and is securely fixed in place.
