The most common endodontic procedure is root canal treatment. This is a procedure that allows the dentist to access the hollow portion of the tooth. This part of the tooth is called the pulp. This procedure is necessary to eliminate pain and infection. Most importantly a root canal saves your tooth.
Root canal procedure:
•Your dentist begins by numbing the involved area •Accessing and cleaning the roots •Your dentist then accesses the root canals and pulp chamber •The canals are then shaped and filled •The point of access is also filled After your root canal, your dentist will prescribe antibiotics and pain medication if needed You will be given after-care instructions on how to care for the affected area A crown is highly recommended after root canal therapy.
